Most running shoes last somewhere between 300 and 500 miles. Where yours land depends on your weight, your stride and the roads you run on.

Four signs

  • The outsole is worn smooth at the heel or under the big toe.
  • The midsole has creases along the side that don't flatten out.
  • Your knees or shins ache after runs that used to feel easy.
  • Pressing your thumb into the midsole feels hard, not springy.

Keep a note of when you start a new pair. When two of the signs show up, it's time.
